Gazens frustrating voice with Hamas in rare protest

The Palestinians protested in Gaza Tuesday in a rare dissent show against Hamas, with some slogans critical singers on the grip of the armed group on the territory after more than a year of devastating war with Israel.

The videos verified by the New York Times showed Gaza groups in the streets in the middle in the northern city of Beit Lahiya. Some transported more neutral signs that opposed the continuation of the war, while others sang slogans asking that Hamas came out.

Gazas, at least publicly, tend to blame Israel for most of the death, destruction and hunger that war has brought. But at least some believe that Hamas is responsible, for starting the conflict by guiding on 7 October 2023, attack Israel, robbing 251 people in Gaza and continuing to fight rather than giving up his power in exchange for a ceased fire.

The anger seemed to be re -emerged after Israel last week abandoned a ceased to cease two months and resumed his bombing of Gaza in an attempt to press Hamas to free more remaining hostages.

“We want to continue until the bloodshed of blood stops and Hamas leaves the Palestinian scene,” said Ahmed Al-Masri, a 35-year-old construction worker who said he had participated in the event.

Ibrahim, 32 years old, another Gazan who joined the protest, said he had arrived in the center of Beit Lahiya to buy food before tripping into the crowd of demonstrators. He asked to be identified with his name only for fear of punishment by Hamas.

He said the message of the demonstrators in Hamas had ended the war and leave Gaza.

Ever since he seized Gaza’s full control in 2007, Hamas has hardly scored dissent by retaining critics and aggressively dispersing events against his policies. A 2018 report Human Rights Watch has accused the group of arresting and torturing habitually opponents.

While at least some Gaza have quietly expressed frustrations with Hamas and criticism from its leaders since the beginning of the war, few were willing to express them publicly.

Last year, Amin Abed, one of the few important critics of Hamas who remained within Gaza, said he had been ambush from the fees of the group’s internal security forces. The masked officers beaten him with hammers and metal bars, he said.

A spokesman for the Hamas government in Gaza suggested that Mr. Abed and another dissident had been victims of criminal activities, adding that the Ministry of Interior managed by Hamas was investigating the episodes.

It is still believed that Hamas commands thousands of armed fighters despite Israel’s concerted efforts to eliminate the militant group. During the ceased the two -month fire with Israel, which began in January, the group tried to reaffirm its domain on the enclave.

Some Gaza fear that any truce that would leave Hamas in control of Gaza would make only another inevitable war.

“Without Hamas he leaves, the next war will be just a matter of time,” said Helal Warshagha, 27, BEIT Lahiya activist who fled Gaza before October 7, 2023.

“We had enough of war, destruction and killing,” he added.
